CONSECUTIVE INTEGERS

1.   The sum of two consecutive integers is 57.  Find the numbers. 

1st number = x                                   x + x + 1 = 57                                      28,29

2nd number = x + 1               2x =56

                                              x = 28

2.   The sum of two consecutive integers is 75.  Find the numbers.

1st number = x                       x+x+1=75                                                        37

2nd number = x+1                 2x = 74

                                              x = 37

3.   Find three consecutive integers whose sum is 60.

1st number = x                                   x+x+1+x+2 =60                                              19,20,21

2nd number = x+1                 3x+3 = 60

3rd number = x+2                  3x = 57

                                              x = 19

4.   The sum of three consecutive numbers is 12.  Find the numbers.

2nd number = x+1                 3x+3 = 12

3rd number = x+2                  3x = 9

5.   Find three consecutive integers if the sum of the first and third is 128.

3rd number = x+3                  x = 63

6.   Find two even consecutive numbers whose sum is 22.

1st number = x                       x+x+2 = 22                                                      10,12

2nd number = x+2                 2x = 20

                                              x = 10

7.   Find two even consecutive integers whose sum is 26.

1st number = x                       x+x+2 = 26                                                      12,14

2nd number = x+2                 2x = 24

                                              x = 12

8.   Find three consecutive odd integers whose sum is 21.

1st number = x                       3x +6 = 21                                                       5,7,9

2nd number = x+2                 3x = 15

3rd number = x+4                  x = 5

9.   Find three consecutive odd integers whose sum is 57.

1st number = x                       x+x+2+x+4 = 57                                             17,19,21

2nd number = x+2                 3x+6 = 57

3rd number = x+4                  3x = 51

                                              x = 17

10.   Find three consecutive odd integers whose sum is 111.

1st number = x                       x+x+2+x+4 = 111                                           35,37,39

2nd number = x+2                 3x+6 = 111

3rd number = x+4                  3x = 105

11.   Find two consecutive odd integers whose sum is 40.

1st number = x                       2x + 2 = 40                                                      19,21

                                              x = 19

12.   Find three consecutive odd integers, if the sum of the second and third is 56.

1st number = x                       x+2+x+4 = 56                                     25,27,29

2nd number = x+2                 2x +6 = 56

                                              x = 25
